A Mother’s Struggle – Mrs. Mangla Devi
A Mother’s Struggle: Fighting for Survival with Four Daughters and an Elderly Mother-in-Law
The Heart-Touching Story of Mrs. Mangla Devi
Mrs. Mangla Devi, a resident of the small village of Budhna in Jakholi Tehsil of Rudraprayag
District, Uttarakhand, is currently facing a hardship that no family should ever have to endure.
Mangla Devi is a simple rural woman. Her family consists of her 75-year-old elderly mother-inlaw and four minor daughters aged 9, 7, 5, and only 3 years old. Before these innocent children
could even begin to build their dreams for the future, a devastating tragedy struck the family and changed their lives forever.
Her husband, Late Mr. Pradeep Singh, worked as a daily wage laborer in the village and was the sole breadwinner of the family. Despite his limited income, he worked tirelessly to provide for his children’s education, meet the family’s daily needs, and care for his elderly mother.
However, on 27 May 2026, he passed away suddenly due to a heart attack. The loss of the family’s only earning member and pillar of support plunged the household into darkness. In a single moment, the family’s financial foundation completely collapsed.
Today, the family has no stable source of income. There are five dependent family members, yet no one to provide for their basic needs. At times, the family struggles even to arrange daily meals. Food supplies, children’s education, clothing, medicines, and other essential household necessities have become major challenges.
Mangla Devi’s father-in-law had already passed away several years ago. The family property had been divided earlier, and her elder brother-in-law is also a daily wage laborer struggling to support his own family. Therefore, he is unable to provide significant financial assistance. As a result, the entire responsibility of caring for four young daughters and an elderly woman now rests solely on Mangla Devi’s shoulders.
She constantly worries about the future of her children. Her greatest wish is to see her daughters educated and able to live dignified lives. However, under the current circumstances, even securing two meals a day has become difficult.
During this difficult time, through an application verified by the Village Head (Gram Pradhan) of Budhna, Mangla Devi appealed to the Director of Utthaan Global Foundation for humanitarian assistance. Her most urgent needs are food supplies, educational support for her children, and basic livelihood assistance for the family.
She stated that the support provided by Utthaan Global Foundation would not merely be food aid or financial assistance; it would serve as a ray of hope in the lives of four innocent girls, an elderly woman, and a struggling mother trying to keep her family together.
